We want to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Hospital room options are available so you can choose the type of room that will best support your overall experience and recovery. No matter which room type you choose, you will receive the same excellent care.
The cost of a standard room is generally covered for Ontarians with Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) coverage. However, additional fees may apply if you choose to stay in a private or semi-private room.

Standard rooms
- Standard rooms feature 3-4 beds, with curtains surrounding each bed for added privacy.
- Patients in standard rooms share a washroom with a shower.
Private and semi-private rooms
Our private and semi-private rooms offer the most privacy and comfort:
- Private rooms are large with only one bed. They offer complete privacy, including a private washroom with a shower.
- Semi-private rooms have two beds, with curtains surrounding each bed for added privacy. Patients in semi-private rooms share a washroom with a shower.
- Private and semi-private rooms tend to be quieter, with fewer people coming and going throughout the day. They also offer more privacy for bedside care (e.g., temperature, blood pressure check, wound care), discussions with your care team, visits with family and friends and quiet time for resting, reading or watching television.
Frequently asked questions
Is my room choice guaranteed? |
We can't guarantee your room choice will be available the day you are admitted to hospital. However, we will make every effort to fulfill your request during your hospital stay. Please note that a limited number of private rooms are available. If you are admitted to a private room, you may be moved to another room if that room is needed to meet a patient's medical needs or to isolate them to control the spread of infection. If this happens, we will make every effort to find another private room for you as soon as possible. You or your insurance company for the type of room you use if the cost is not covered by OHIP. If the room you are given has a greater cost than the room you requested, you will be charged the lower rate. |
Can I change my room preference? |
Yes, you can change your room preference. To change your room request at any time during your stay, please contact your unit registration clerk and/or the Patient Concierge team (Brampton Civic: 437-231-7003 Etobicoke General: 437-231-7004). |
I have extended/third party/private health benefits. How do I know what they cover? |
All insurance companies and plans are different. Yours may cover some, all or none of the cost of a private or semi-private room. Please check with your insurance company before you are admitted to hospital, so you can make an informed decision. You are responsible for any hospital room fees not covered by your provincial or third-party insurance. For privacy reasons, we cannot contact your insurance company to ask about your coverage. |
What if my insurance does not cover the full amount of my room/accommodation fee? |
If your insurance only covers some of the room rate, we will bill you directly for the difference. |
I do not have insurance. Can I still request a semi-private or private room? |
Yes. If a semi-private or private room is available, you will be billed directly for each night of your stay in the room. If you are not covered by OHIP, you will be billed directly for your room, even if it is a standard room. A three-day deposit is required. |
