Hospital and community health care providers discussed diabetes, pharmacare and the needs of the Brampton community
Today, William Osler Health System (Osler) was pleased to welcome The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada; Sonia Sidhu, Member of Parliament for Brampton South; and local community partners to Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness (Peel Memorial) to discuss diabetes, pharmacare and the unique health care needs of the Brampton community.
Osler serves one of the fastest-growing and most culturally-diverse regions in Ontario, and the Brampton community experiences the highest rate of diabetes in the Province. To meet this unique need, Osler offers comprehensive diabetes care and education at its hospital sites – including a Diabetes Education Centre, the first of its kind to be accredited with Diabetes Canada. Today’s engaging conversation is important as Osler’s health care teams continue to ensure that patients and families are supported in their diabetes journey, and that the significant impacts of this serious disease on the health care system can be addressed by all levels of government.
As a leading hospital system in Ontario, Osler is planning a health system of the future with ongoing developments including the transformation of Peel Memorial into Brampton’s new hospital; a comprehensive Cancer Care Centre at Brampton Civic Hospital; and a partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University to open a new School of Medicine.
