Throughout July and August 2021, William Osler Health System’s (Osler) COVID-19 testing centres and COVID-19 vaccine clinics will close to support Osler’s careful and gradual recovery efforts.
The COVID-19 Testing Centre at Osler’s Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness (Peel Memorial) will close effective July 11, 2021 and the COVID-19 Testing Centre at Etobicoke General Hospital will close effective July 25, 2021. Both will close at the end of clinic operations on the last day. The Urgent Care Centre at Peel Memorial, temporarily closed in April 2020 to ensure that Osler’s resources and highly-skilled health care teams are working to best meet the needs of the community, will continue to be temporarily closed. Osler will continue to monitor Emergency Department volumes at Brampton Civic Hospital and Etobicoke General Hospital.
The COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic at Brampton Civic Hospital and the Osler-Humber COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic will close effective Friday, August 6, 2021 at the end of clinic operations that day. The COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic at Century Garden Recreation Centre will close effective Sunday, August 8, 2021 at the end of clinic operations that day. No first or second dose appointments will be cancelled as a result of the closure.
Throughout the pandemic, COVID-19 testing and vaccination have been key strategies in Ontario’s COVID-19 response. Since opening one of the first COVID-19 testing centres in Ontario in March 2020 and one of the first COVID-19 vaccine clinics in December 2020, Osler has been dedicated to assessing, testing and vaccinating as many eligible individuals as possible in our communities, to help stop the spread of COVID-19. From March 2020 to June 2021, almost 430,000 tests were completed at Osler’s COVID-19 Testing Centres. From December 2020 to July 2021, more than 245,000 COVID-19 vaccines were administered at Osler’s COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics.
“Over the past sixteen months, Osler has worked closely with Ontario Health, Toronto and Peel Public Health and community health partners to build much-needed COVID-19 testing and vaccination capacity in the community,” said Kiki Ferrari, Chief Operating Officer, William Osler Health System. “As COVID-19 admissions continue to decrease across our hospitals, community vaccination rates increase, and community partner testing centres and vaccination clinics remain readily available, Osler is focusing on recovery and gradual resumption of its operations. We also continue to work with our partners to ensure both vaccine administration and testing services remain accessible and available to the communities we serve.”
Anyone in need of a COVID-19 test or vaccine can continue to book appointments at other available Peel and Etobicoke testing centres and vaccine clinics. For a full list of COVID-19 testing and vaccination locations in the community, visit covid-19.ontario.ca.
