Access to quality health care will be increased for Osler’s communities
Effective December 6, 2021, William Osler Health System (Osler) will re-open the Urgent Care Centre (UCC) at Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness (Peel Memorial). The re-opening of the UCC will increase access to quality health care for residents with non-life threatening conditions.
Osler and the communities it serves have been among the hardest hit throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of this unprecedented impact and pressure on our health care system, Osler implemented a number of initiatives to support capacity relief, including temporarily closing the UCC at Peel Memorial in early 2020 so that resources could be redirected to the areas of most need during the pandemic.
With COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and ICU admissions declining at Osler and across the province, and vaccinations rates continuing to increase, Osler has resumed most of its regular operations. As part of Osler’s safe and gradual recovery plan, the UCC is re-opening with modified hours of operation (1:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., seven days a week). Osler’s Virtual Urgent Care is also available to provide a convenient alternative to visiting Osler’s Emergency Departments or the UCC. Virtual Urgent Care is suitable for any condition where a patient can safely wait a few hours for an appointment. Patients can find out more details or book a Virtual Urgent Care appointment online.
“At Osler, our top priority continues to be the health and well-being of the communities we serve,” said Kiki Ferrari, Chief Operating Officer, William Osler Health System. “Re-opening the Urgent Care Centre is one of the last key milestones in returning to regular operations and ensuring our community receives the right care in the right place. I would like to thank the community for their understanding and thank the great team at Osler for their adaptability and unwavering efforts to care for our community during these exceptional times.”
The UCC at Peel Memorial is resourced with emergency-trained staff and physicians ready to provide care to patients in need of immediate but non-life threatening care, and enables ready access to Diagnostic Services.
