Release of the Request for Proposals to build Brampton’s new hospital represents a major milestone in the redevelopment process
William Osler Health System (Osler) and Infrastructure Ontario (IO), in partnership with the Ontario government, have marked a significant milestone in expanding health care capacity for Brampton and the surrounding area by releasing the Request for Proposals (RFP) to build the new Peel Memorial Hospital.
“The release of the RFP marks a historic step forward in transforming Peel Memorial into Brampton’s new hospital, significantly expanding health care capacity in our community for generations,” said Pardeep Singh Gill, Chair of William Osler Health System’s Board of Directors. “Osler is grateful and fully committed to working with our partners to build the state-of-the-art hospital our community deserves, bringing our bold vision for world-class health care, right here at home, to life.”
Following a competitive Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process that began in May 2024, four top-tier teams have been shortlisted and are now invited to submit proposals. The following prequalified teams and their leading members have been selected to participate in this next phase of the project:
- Progress Peel Health Solutions
- Pomerleau Healthcare Partners
- EllisDon Corporation
- Bird Design-Build Construction Inc.
These prequalified teams will prepare proposals that detail how they will deliver the project through IO’s Progressive Design-Build contract model. Proposals will be evaluated by IO and Osler, and the top-ranked team will work collaboratively with IO and Osler during a Development Phase. Following the Development Phase, Osler may sign a construction contract with the successful team to deliver the project and start full construction on the tower.
Pre-construction work is actively underway as Osler progresses through the required stages of government approvals, with early construction on the site anticipated to begin in Spring 2025. The final design and construction timeline will be established in partnership with the successful proponent. As with any large-scale construction projects, key dates are subject to change, pending additional approvals.
“Reaching the RFP stage for the new Peel Memorial Hospital is a testament to the unwavering dedication of Osler’s teams, in partnership with the Ontario Government, Infrastructure Ontario, the City of Brampton, Osler Foundation, and our incredible community,” said Dr. Frank Martino, President and CEO, William Osler Health System. “The transformation of Peel Memorial into Brampton’s new hospital will bring a new Emergency Department to serve our fast-growing community, as well as introduce specialized and expanded services that are vital for patients and their families. This project ensures that our communities will have timely access to high-quality care close to home, when and where they need it most.”
