Premier Ford joins Osler to mark a transformational step forward in health care for Brampton and beyond
Today marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for William Osler Health System (Osler) with a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Peel Memorial Hospital – a pivotal moment that marks a significant step forward for health care in the community. This milestone arrives as Osler proudly celebrates the 100th anniversary of Peel Memorial in 2025, ushering in a bold future for health care in Brampton, increasing vital services to meet the needs of one of Canada’s fastest-growing, most diverse communities.
Those joining Osler and Osler Foundation senior leadership, Board members, donors and community champions to commemorate the occasion included the Honourable Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario; the Honourable Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health; the Honourable Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure; Members of Provincial Parliament from Brampton and Peel Region; and Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton.
“I’m thrilled to celebrate this incredible milestone as we get shovels in the ground for the new Peel Memorial Hospital, which will support improved care and continued growth in Brampton, throughout Peel Region and beyond,” said Premier Ford. “The investments we are making across the province will help transform health care, with $50 billion supporting more than 50 hospital projects across Ontario. It’s all part of our plan to ensure people across the province can get the high-quality, connected and convenient care they need.”
The transformation of Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second hospital will bring significant increases to hospital programs and services, expanding access and ensuring the community receives high-quality care close to home. The new multi-story patient tower and the new purpose-built 24/7 Emergency Department will enhance emergency care for residents, addressing capacity pressures at Brampton Civic Hospital. Additional inpatient services at the new Peel Memorial Hospital, combined with existing outpatient services – including diagnostic imaging and surgery – will significantly improve access to comprehensive health care services for Brampton and surrounding communities.
“This new chapter marks an important step in ensuring that Osler grows to meet the health care needs of our diverse, fast-growing community,” said Pardeep Singh Gill, Chair of William Osler Health System’s Board of Directors. “Osler is profoundly grateful to the Ontario Government, City of Brampton Mayor and Councillors, Osler Foundation, donors, and the community for their continued unwavering support to help increase health care capacity across the region for years to come.”
Early construction activities at Peel Memorial, such as a temporary access road, will pave the way for the new patient tower. The next stages of construction will expand clinical space within the existing building to accommodate growing patient needs.
"Osler is thrilled to move ahead with building the new Peel Memorial Hospital, which will provide even greater access to important health care services for our growing community,” said Dr. Frank Martino, President and CEO, William Osler Health System. “Reaching this milestone during Peel Memorial’s 100thanniversary makes it even more special. This project builds on a century of compassionate care and will serve our community for generations.”
As Osler embarks on this historic transformation, the new Peel Memorial Hospital stands as a testament to a century of excellence in health care and a bold vision for the future.
“Thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly to make today a reality. Your passion and hard work are at the heart of this project. I am deeply grateful to the province, our Council, the generous donors, and the amazing staff and dedicated volunteers across the Osler family,” said Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown. “Our new second hospital will not only expand access to health care, but it fulfills a sacred promise to our families, our friends and our neighbours to deliver on building a brighter and healthier future for all.”

“A century ago, a group of committed local residents recognized the need for a hospital and they stepped forward to make it a reality. Peel Memorial was a hospital built by the community, for the community, and that spirit of ‘deeds, not words’ is as evident today as it was in 1925. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to continue the legacy of Peel Memorial for the next one hundred years and we look forward to creating history once again.” - Ken Mayhew, President and CEO, William Osler Health System Foundation
