The new year is a time of renewal and excitement as we begin a new chapter. At William Osler Health System (Osler), we can feel this renewed energy as we embark on a pivotal chapter for health care in our region. While we are firmly dedicated to our new Vision of 'world-class health care inspired by our people and communities', we are also focused on expanding hospital capacity, increasing our vital workforce, improving patient outcomes, and prioritizing culturally respectful and innovative care so we can best serve our communities.
Guided by our 2024-2029 Strategic Plan, Going Beyond for our people and communities, and building on our strengths in clinical care, education and research, we’re working with health system, government, community and academic partners to realize a unified, accessible and inclusive health system for those we serve. Together, we are working to ensure that all community members continue to receive world-class health care, close to home.
This year, you’ll hear more about some of our exciting initiatives, including:
- Transforming Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second hospital;
- Planning for a comprehensive cancer care centre to bring radiation treatment and expanded services close to home;
- Expanding health research initiatives through the recently launched Osler Research Institute for Health Innovation; and
- Training future health care professionals as the primary clinical partner for Toronto Metropolitan University’s new School of Medicine.
This year, we will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Peel Memorial. As the first of Osler’s five sites, Peel Memorial stands as a true testament to the power of a community, mobilized around the shared dream of accessible health care for patients and families. This dream continues to inspire our work today.
As President and CEO, Peel Memorial holds a special place in my heart – it is where I began my career in Brampton nearly 35 years ago, spending countless years delivering a generation of babies and providing care alongside exceptional physician and nurse colleagues within its yellow brick walls. I often reflect on how this hospital came to life through the incredible determination and generosity of a community that rallied together to make health care accessible for all. Over the past century, Peel Memorial’s facilities and services have evolved to meet the needs of one of Ontario’s fastest-growing regions. Yet, what has never changed is the unwavering dedication of those who deliver care and support to our patients every day. I am endlessly inspired by our teams, and I am so grateful for their tireless commitment to our community.
As we anticipate an exciting future for Peel Memorial, we also look forward to celebrating this historic anniversary with the community, our partners and team members through stories about the people of Peel Memorial – highlighting patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and donors who are part of Peel Memorial’s rich legacy. Watch for more information on how you can contribute your own stories of, and connections to Peel Memorial!
I am honored to work alongside Osler’s dedicated team of staff, physicians and volunteers. They not only provide safe, compassionate, high-quality care, but also drive innovation to meet the ever-changing health care needs of our diverse and growing community.
Thank you for your continued support and for being an essential part of our exciting journey as we build a health care system for the future.
