Join William Osler Health System (Osler) as it honours Peel Memorial’s proud past and bold future: Share your stories!
Osler is proud to celebrate Peel Memorial’s 100th anniversary, and a legacy of delivering exemplary care and fostering the health and well-being of the community. This year, Osler will honour the many people and stories that shaped the hospital’s remarkable history through the 'Peel Memorial 100: Proud Past. Bold Future.' campaign, launching today.
Peel Memorial’s proud past
Peel Memorial owes its roots to a group of community-minded women and veterans whose collective vision, perseverance and fundraising efforts brought Osler’s first site to life. On February 2, 1925, Peel Memorial opened its doors for the first time with six private rooms, two public wards of three beds each, and a nursery equipped for three babies.
“For a century, Peel Memorial has been a vital part of our evolving community,” said Pardeep Singh Gill, Chair and Treasurer of Osler’s Board of Directors. “Inspired by the vision and commitment of clinical and civic leaders, Peel Memorial’s 100-year legacy demonstrates time and again, that it truly takes a community to build a new hospital, where compassionate, quality care is delivered by a dedicated team who are committed to the well-being of the people we serve.”
The hospital’s bold future
With plans underway to transform Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second hospital, Osler is creating a modern health system for the future.
“Since opening the original hospital 100 years ago, Peel Memorial’s health care teams have proudly served generations of Brampton patients and families,” said Dr. Frank Martino, President and CEO, William Osler Health System. “This year, we also look ahead to a bold and exciting future as we begin early construction on the new Peel Memorial Hospital, bringing a second Emergency Department, more inpatient beds across our health system, and new and enhanced outpatient clinics to Brampton. The transformation of Peel Memorial will increase our community’s health care capacity for decades to come.”
“The first of Osler’s five sites, Peel Memorial is a true testament to what can be achieved when a community mobilizes around a shared dream to deliver world-class health care, close to home,” said Ken Mayhew, President and CEO, William Osler Health System Foundation. “This centenary would not be possible without the tireless support of our donors, volunteers, and community partners, whose contributions have enabled Peel Memorial to thrive over the past 100 years. We thank our community for their legacy of support and look forward to helping transform Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second hospital.”
