critical care at Osler

Inspired, intensive care when it’s needed most

Osler has the skilled Critical Care staff, facilities and specialty services to care for patients who need intensive monitoring and treatment due to a serious illness or injury.  Facilities and services include:

Intensive Care Units (ICUs)

Located at both our Brampton Civic Hospital and Etobicoke General Hospital locations.

A Surgical Intermediate Care Unit (SIMCU)

Located at Brampton Civic Hospital.  The SIMCU provides a level of care between what a patient would receive on a general patient care unit and the ICU.

Partnership in the West GTA Stroke Network

This ensures anyone living in the area served by Osler who suffers a stroke and is eligible for t-PA (a clot-busting drug that can minimize the effect of some types of stroke) will be taken directly to Trillium Health Centre (the Regional Stroke Centre) to be given the drug. Once stable, they will be transferred back to one of Osler’s hospitals.

24/7 Code STEMI program

Patients arriving with heart attacks arising from a blocked coronary artery bypass the Emergency Department at Brampton Civic Hospital and go straight to Osler’s cardiac catheterization lab.

At Etobicoke General Hospital, patients are immediately redirected to Brampton Civic Hospital for this care. Cardiologists use a balloon catheter and stent to quickly open the blocked artery.
