Mental Health Services for Children & Adolescents

Inpatient Unit

The Child and Adolescent Unit cares for children/adolescents, up to the age of 18, with acute mental health symptoms. Patients are assessed, treated and discharged, with the involvement of family, school and community supports. Admission to the unit is voluntary and involuntary.

The Child and Adolescent Unit (10-beds) provides care to children and adolescents, up to the age of 18, who are experiencing acute mental health symptoms. Patients are assessed, treated and discharged, with the involvement of family, school and community supports. Admission to the unit is voluntary. An on-site school program may also be indicated as part of the treatment plan. 

The Child and Adolescent Intensive Unit (4 beds) serves the most acutely ill youth who arrive through the Emergency Department. Admission to this unit is on an involuntary basis.

Day Hospital

For children and adolescents up to the age of 18 who have acute psychiatric symptoms but do not need overnight hospital admission.

Outpatient Services

Osler’s Children Mental Health Services (other than emergency/crisis services) are accessed through physician referral. Standardized screening tools may be used to determine which of our services is best suited to the client’s needs. Upon receipt of referral, the patient and/or family member will be contacted for initial screening and intake process.

Child and Adolescent Clinic

This off-site clinic provides outpatient, interdisciplinary treatment for children and youth under 18 years of age who have or are at risk of developing a psychiatric disorder.

Eating Disorders Clinic

Outpatient assessment and treatment for children, adolescents and adults with mild to moderate eating disorders including Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa.

  • Family Based Treatment
  • Group psycho-education
  • Nutrition counselling
  • Short-term psychotherapy groups and limited individual therapy
Nurse practitioners provide clinical monitoring as well as community outreach and education.
