Before you apply, make sure that you understand the requirements of volunteering:

  • The minimum age to volunteer is 15 (at the time of application).
  • There is a 60-hour minimum requirement for all volunteers, which takes approximately 6-8 months to complete.
  • A typical volunteer placement is two to four hours, once per week (example every Tuesday 8am to 12noon).
  • Due to the customer service nature of volunteering, volunteers must have excellent communication skills, including verbal and written English. Additional languages are an asset.
  • There are some areas of the hospital that do not offer volunteer opportunities, such as the pharmacy, laboratory, food services, security, housekeeping and medical office.
  • Job shadowing, observer ships or mentoring does not come under the scope of volunteering and is therefore not offered.
  • The Adult and University/College, and High School applications are available all year.
  • For those who are interested in volunteering in the summer only there is a Summer Program for University/College and High School students.
    • UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE STUDENTS: Students must be available to volunteer from May 1st  to August 31st, for 2 fixed shifts daytime/weekdays only.  Deadline for applications March 15th each year.
    • HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: Students must be available to volunteer from July 1st to August 31st, for 2 fixed shifts daytime/weekdays only.  Deadline for applications April 15th each year.
    • Regretfully, we will not be able to guarantee a placement for everyone and we will only be able to contact successful candidates.

Interested?  Great! We look forward to hearing from you!

We are looking for volunteers that are energetic, compassionate, dedicated and above all else, focused on delivering Osler’s Mission, Vision and Values.  To apply, please choose one of our hospital sites.

Once you submit your application it will be reviewed, taking into account your experience, skills and availability along with our current program needs.

Please note that we receive a substantial number of applications. Regretfully, we will not be able to guarantee a placement for everyone and we will only be able to contact successful candidates. If you have not heard from us within three months you are welcome to reapply. Please check each hospital site for application intake details.
