Dr. Paula Chidwick is the Director of Research & Corporate Ethics and Ethicist at William Osler Health System. She was the first full-time Ethicist to be hired at a community hospital.
Paula has a PhD in Philosophy specializing in Bioethics from the University of Guelph and a Fellowship in Clinical Ethics from the University of Toronto Joint Centre for Bioethics.
Paula provides ethics services to health care organizations throughout Ontario. She publishes and lectures widely on a variety of topics including ethics in transitions, ethics quality improvement, ethics and error, end-of-life, and advance care planning. She has served on the Canadian Bioethics Society Executive, Health Canada’s Scientific and Expert Advisory Panels, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Critical Care Coaching Teams and Critical Care Services Ontario.
She is also currently a member of the Education and Training Committee of Technology Evaluation in the Elderly Network and a founding member of the Clinical Ethics Summer Institute (CESI) and the Healthcare Consent Quality Collaborative (HCQC).
