Dr. Sandra Donnelly is the Corporate Chief of Medicine and Medical Director Acute Medicine Services at William Osler Health System (Osler). She graduated from McGill University (1982) and completed training internal medicine and nephrology at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal (1987) and an MSc. in clinical epidemiology and biostatistics at McMaster University (1989). During her time as full time faculty at University of Toronto, she established a research program in integrative biology and physiology which focused on the regulation of erythropoietin production in health and progressive renal insufficiency, and the role of the rennin-angiotensin system in modulating the production of erythropoietin. She developed the SMH Vascular Access Program with the vision of overcoming the clinical challenges of optimal vascular access with a multidisciplinary interest in bringing basic vascular biology to the dialysis chair side.
As Osler’s Corporate Chief of Medicine, she continues to identify the components and interactions of complex systems and brings these principles to bear on the health care systems per se.
