Meet our Board of Directors


Vanita Varma is the Principal and Director of VesG Consulting Services.  She is an organizational strategy and leadership development professional with over 20 years of multi-faceted experience in the non-profit sector including executive leadership, business planning, strategic visioning and organizational development. 

Having worked in Asia Pacific and the Middle East, Vanita brings a distinct global perspective and a special expertise on visioning and strategizing, organizational design and structure, program evaluation and managing diverse teams in an organization. Most recently, Vanita held the position of Executive Director at Spectra Community Support Services in region of Peel. Vanita has a Masters of Arts in Economics, Masters in Organizational Leadership and professional certifications in Counselling, Mediation and Executive Leadership development.


Jane McMullan is an independent management consultant with over 25 years’ experience in healthcare. Most of her consulting career has been spent as a Principal with Blackstone Partners and KPMG LLP, where she focuses on strategic planning, organizational and leadership performance reviews for community hospitals and academic health science centres.  

Before becoming a consultant, Jane spent 19 years with Baxter Corporation, where she was Vice President of the Renal and Biomedical Divisions and also served as an instructor in quality and business ethics.  Jane has also acted as a senior consultant and project director in the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.  

Jane holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Honours, Microbiology) from the University of Guelph and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario, Richard Ivey School of Business.

LISA COULMAN - Treasurer

Lisa Coulman is a Chartered Accountant and is currently a Partner with PWC in Brampton.  She is a graduate of the University of Waterloo where she received her Bachelor of Arts (Honours Chartered Accountancy Studies).   

With more than 25 years of diverse work experience, Lisa has extensive knowledge of issues that companies (small start up to large public) face throughout their lifecycle. She has extensive experience with business issues related to earning revenue, creating value from assets, reporting requirements for costs associated with those assets and obtaining financing. Lisa has worked with many companies including broadcasters, producers, technology, life sciences, retailers, magazine and book publishers, and founders of media companies.  Lisa has served as a community member of Osler’s Health Services Committee of the Board for the past two years.


Ricco Bhasin is a Partner at Torys LLP in Toronto.  He is a graduate of the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University, Business Leadership at the Rotman Business School of U of T and the Commerce program at the Schulich School of Business. He is admitted to practice in Ontario and New York (where he lived and worked for 5 years).
Ricco Bhasin’s practice focuses on corporate law, specializing in Mergers & Acquisitions, financial services and private equity. He leads deals in domestic, U.S. and cross-border public and private mergers and acquisitions.  He also advises on capital markets, securities and governance issues. Ricco was awarded the “Top 40 under 40” Emerging Leaders award from the M&A Advisor in New York. 
Ricco is active in diversity and charity causes, including the Heart & Stroke foundation, the Torys LAWS program and ERG Rountables. Ricco is conversant in Punjabi and Hindi and is a former resident of the Brampton community.


Susan Britton Payne is the President & CEO of Grace Hill Inc.   Susan is an MBA graduate of Rotman School of Management, and has a BA from the University of Toronto.  

Susan is a seasoned senior executive with over 35 years of experience in the financial industry.  Prior to joining Grace Hill Inc., Susan was the Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer for BMO Financial Group.  

Susan previously served as a long-term member of the Board of The Young People’s Theatre and is a current member of the BMO InvestorLine Board.


Rani K. Dhaliwal is the Senior Vice President, Planning and Corporate Services & CFO at The Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning.

Rani K. Dhaliwal is a confident, industrious, results-oriented professional with progressive and diverse set of experiences in finance, administration and business operations within public, private and not-for-profit sectors.  She encourages a culture of integrity, respect and collaboration, and promotes a learning community approach.  Rani consistently strives for excellence through continuous improvement, team building, and motivating team members to peak performance. 

As Sr. Vice President Rani leads the areas of Strategic Planning Institutional Analysis; Financial Services; Information Technology; Facilities Management, Capital Construction; Public Safety; Risk Management and Campus Services. Her team of leaders provides expert stewardship, valued advice and services in an integrated, transparent and collaborative manner to ensure good governance, enable innovation, and enhance the student experience.


Linda Franklin is President and CEO of Colleges Ontario, the advocacy association for Ontario’s 24 Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology. Linda has a degree in English and History and a Master of Arts in journalism from the University of Western Ontario.

Ms. Franklin has focused provincial and national attention on the shortage of skilled workers and the importance of the college system in addressing this challenge. Previously, Ms. Franklin was the President of the Wine Council of Ontario, where she directed a multi-million dollar marketing campaign for the domestic wine industry. Prior to her joining the Wine Council of Ontario Linda served as Director of Public Affairs & Communications for the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario and as Chief of Staff to the Honourable Ernie Eves. 

Linda’s community involvement includes being an active member of the Board for the Canadian National Exhibition Association & Ontario Place.


Beck Hoffland is a Chartered Accountant and is currently a Partner with the Chartered Accounting firm of McCarney Group.  He is a graduate of the University of Toronto where he received is B.Com. Prior to joining McCarney in 2004 he held a number of senior financial positions in both private and publicly held corporations.  He has been a contributing writer to a number of industry periodicals and has taught at Humber College.


Ms. Silvia Montefiore is the Canadian Managing Partner for Business Enablement and Operations for KPMG. Her previous roles includes Business Leader, of KPMG’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) Audit practice in Toronto and National Sector Leader of KPMG’s Lottery and Gaming practice. 

She has over 25 years of experience working with some of the largest clients in the TMT sector. Silvia is also a member of the Management Committee for KPMG in Canada.
Silvia has a BComm from the University of Toronto (1984 – 1988) and in 1991, qualified as a Chartered Professional Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accounts of Ontario.  Silvia is currently a member of the Board of Directors and serves as Treasurer of the Board.


Geoffrey Ritchie is currently the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at Mawer Investment Management Ltd.  Geoffrey is a securities lawyer called to the bar in Ontario and in England and Wales with a BA from McMaster University, a JD from Queen's University and an LL.M from Osgoode Hall Law School. His career has included work in private banking, fintech, trusts and estates and private practice in Canada and the UK.

Geoffrey is currently the Co-Chair of the ‘Regulatory Compliance and Legal Risk Management Program’ at Osgoode Hall Law School PDP and has taught Advanced Securities Law at Queen’s University.  Geoff served as a Vice Chair and Executive Director of the Private Capital Markets Association of Canada for 7 years and was recognized by Wealth Professional magazine on its '2014 Hot List of Wealth Professionals'. 

Geoffrey’s community involvement has included serving on the Board of Mainstay Housing, Ontario’s largest mental health non-profit social housing provider, managing political campaigns at the federal and provincial levels and working as a political staff member at the Ontario Legislature.   He is proud to have been born at the “former” Peel Memorial Hospital and to be the son of an RN who spent many years working in the Emergency Room at Peel Memorial.


Avninder Singh is an entrepreneur who believes in democratic leadership and inclusive growth.  His education and work experience has culminated into a strong platform for the construction of his dream project – Akal Optical.  Avninder opened his first store in Rexdale in 1998 and has since opened Locations across the GTA.

As an entrepreneur Avninder’s strengths and attributes include: strong decision-making, fluent communication skills, proven leadership development, keen desire to continuously learn and improve, and community relationship building.

With a Bachelor of Science and Diploma in Opticianry, Avninder seeks to continuously enhance his learnings by interacting with business affiliates, employees, customers and community.
