VANITA VARMA - Chair

Vanita Varma is the Principal and Director of VesG Consulting Services.  She is an organizational strategy and leadership development professional with over 20 years of multi-faceted experience in the non-profit sector including executive leadership, business planning, strategic visioning and organizational development. 

Having worked in Asia Pacific and the Middle East, Vanita brings a distinct global perspective and a special expertise on visioning and strategizing, organizational design and structure, program evaluation and managing diverse teams in an organization. Most recently, Vanita held the position of Executive Director at Spectra Community Support Services in region of Peel. Vanita has a Masters of Arts in Economics, Masters in Organizational Leadership and professional certifications in Counselling, Mediation and Executive Leadership development.

BECK HOFFLAND - Vice Chair

Beck Hoffland is a Chartered Accountant and is currently a Partner with the Chartered Accounting firm of McCarney Group.  He is a graduate of the University of Toronto where he received is B.Com. Prior to joining McCarney in 2004 he held a number of senior financial positions in both private and publicly held corporations.  He has been a contributing writer to a number of industry periodicals and has taught at Humber College.

Beck’s community volunteer activities include serving on the boards of the Psychology Foundation of Canada and Community Living Mississauga.  Beck has been a member of the Osler Board since 2010.

JUAN CARRANZA - Vice Chair

Juan Carranza is a personal injury lawyer with with a particular interest in issues of access to justice, socio-cultural inclusion, and communications.  Juan is the founder of the law firm Carranza LLP.

He has a Masters in Business Administration from Queen’s University, Bachelor of Arts with Honours from York University and a Bachelor of Law from Osgoode Hall Law School.  Juan was called to the Ontario Bar in 1994.

Juan was the first Central American lawyer to be called to the Law Society of Upper Canada, and aspired to create a law firm that not only provided a valuable service to the community, but one that also raised funds to support communities in need. 

LISA COULMAN

Lisa Coulman is a Chartered Accountant and is currently a Partner with PWC in Brampton.  She is a graduate of the University of Waterloo where she received her Bachelor of Arts (Honours Chartered Accountancy Studies).   

With more than 25 years of diverse work experience, Lisa has extensive knowledge of issues that companies (small start up to large public) face throughout their lifecycle. She has extensive experience with business issues related to earning revenue, creating value from assets, reporting requirements for costs associated with those assets and obtaining financing. Lisa has worked with many companies including broadcasters, producers, technology, life sciences, retailers, magazine and book publishers, and founders of media companies.  Lisa has served as a community member of Osler’s Health Services Committee of the Board for the past two years.

MYRA CRIDLAND

Myra Cridland is Senior Vice-President, BMO Wealth Management Headquarters.  She is responsible for leading a centre of excellence for a number of key functions from across the wealth management lines of business, including:  Strategy and Performance Transformation, Business Operations, Project Management, Wealth Planning, Wealth Retail Sales and Client Experience.   Myra joined BMO as a Customer Service Representative while attending school. She served as Branch Manager in Personal & Commercial for five years in various locations in Toronto. For the next several years, Myra held a variety of progressive positions in Personal & Commercial headquarters. Upon completion of her MBA she joined Corporate Finance and later joined the Wealth Management team. 

Myra has an Honours BA from the University of Toronto, an MBA from Dalhousie University and recently received a Master’s Certificate in Social Innovation from the University of Waterloo. She is a member of the Creative Works Studio community arts and outreach program steering committee and a member of the Board of Directors for the William Osler Health System.

RANI K. DHALIWAL

Rani K. Dhaliwal is the Senior Vice President, Planning and Corporate Services & CFO at The Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning.

Rani K. Dhaliwal is a confident, industrious, results-oriented professional with progressive and diverse set of experiences in finance, administration and business operations within public, private and not-for-profit sectors.  She encourages a culture of integrity, respect and collaboration, and promotes a learning community approach.  Rani consistently strives for excellence through continuous improvement, team building, and motivating team members to peak performance. 

As Sr. Vice President Rani leads the areas of Strategic Planning Institutional Analysis; Financial Services; Information Technology; Facilities Management, Capital Construction; Public Safety; Risk Management and Campus Services. Her team of leaders provides expert stewardship, valued advice and services in an integrated, transparent and collaborative manner to ensure good governance, enable innovation, and enhance the student experience.

JANE MCMULLAN

Jane McMullan is an independent management consultant with over 25 years’ experience in healthcare.  Most of her consulting career has been spent as a Principal with Blackstone Partners and KPMG LLP, where she focuses on strategic planning, organizational and leadership performance reviews for community hospitals and academic health science centres.  

Before becoming a consultant, Jane spent 19 years with Baxter Corporation, where she was Vice President of the Renal and Biomedical Divisions and also served as an instructor in quality and business ethics.  Jane has also acted as a senior consultant and project director in the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.  

Jane holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Honours, Microbiology) from the University of Guelph and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario, Richard Ivey School of Business.

SILVIA MONTEFIORE, Treasurer

Silvia Montefiore is the Practice Leader and a Partner in the Technology, Media & Telecommunications Assurance Practice for KPMG LLP, and the National Industry Leader for KPMG’s Lottery and Gaming Practice.  Previously, she was Lead HR partner, GTA Audit Practice – KPMG LLP.  Silvia is a results-oriented individual with an exceptional ability to build, motivate and lead high performing teams.

Silvia holds a BComm from the University of Toronto and, in 1991, she qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accounts of Ontario. She is a member of United Way’s Women Gaining Ground, an organization committed to helping women in poverty gain economic self sufficiency.  She was also Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors of New Haven Learning Centre, which provides the gold standard in education for children with autism.  

AVNINDER SINGH

Avninder Singh is an entrepreneur who believes in democratic leadership and inclusive growth.  His education and work experience has culminated into a strong platform for the construction of his dream project – Akal Optical.  With the objective of offering unmatched vision care to the community, he opened up his first store-location in Rexdale in 1998.  Since that time he has transformed that modest beginning to a more sophisticated business set-up, boasting 20 store locations in all of GTA.

As an entrepreneur Avninder’s strengths and attributes include: strong decision-making, fluent communication skills, proven leadership development, keen desire to continuously learn and improve, and community relationship building.

With a Bachelor of Science and Diploma in Opticianry, Avninder seeks to continuously enhance his learnings by interacting with business affiliates, employees, customers and community.
