Osler's Summer Student Research Program (SSRP) provides students the opportunity to gain research experience in a community hospital setting working with passionate researchers across many different disciplines.
Each year, we accept students into our SSRP with the goal of matching student qualifications to potential projects.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the student must be fully vaccinated (COVID-19) to be considered for the program.
Why participate in SSRP?
SSRP is a unique opportunity for students to gain valuable experience in a clinical setting. Students will be responsible for much of the research work on their own while having an Osler clinician as their supervisor. There is also a chance to interact with patients directly and to observe the daily functions of a clinical environment.
Program highlights
- Large community hospital offering a breadth of programs in which to conduct research

- Bi-weekly education sessions to advance knowledge in research related topics

Eligibility criteria
- Completed at least two years of post-secondary education, ideally in a health-related discipline with plans to return to school in the fall
- Excellent computer skills including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize workload and attention to detail
- Ability to work and travel between Osler sites - Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital and Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness
- Additional considerations:
- Knowledge of research methodology, REB/regulatory bodies is an asset
- Knowledge of data analysis programs/software an asset
Program requirements
- Assist researchers in designing a research project
- Create/revise study-related documents
- Prepare and submit studies to the Research Ethics Board
- Perform study procedures (data collection and analysis)
- Attend education sessions
- Compile all of study information into a poster format and present at the Osler Research poster presentation day in August

Positions and work hours
Student positions are paid at minimum wage and expected to work full time (35 hours/week) for the duration of the program.
